  • The US has been very generous and remains very open to immigration (most of which is made up of the very poor). Therefore, the US doesn't rate well (on these scales) ... compared to countries which have been much more internally focused and isolationist.

  • I'm not talking about WWII, I am talking about current times. Other countries should be paying for their own defense instead of us paying for it all. Right. Then our defense spending would decrease while those other nation's defense spending would increase.

  • I think that something that should be taken into account is that America has taken on the role of the defender of the free world. Of course, the other Western industrialized powers don't spend as much on defense as we do, ... giving them more to spend on social issues, BTW.
